Guest Room Reveal

Both of our families are coming for Thanksgiving this year which means I'm feeling a push to get our guest rooms ready for visitors.

Today's post is about our downstairs guest room. It was fairly quick to do and I found some great deals which I'm excited to share.

I didn't have a before picture of when we moved in, but here is the photo from Zillow if that helps. The walls were a yellowed beige...which matched the trim. I like trim to stand out a bit and this color wasn't doing it.


I painted the walls Grayish (A Sherwin Williams color) but with Valspar paint. It only required one coat and took two hours. I rained all day here...which meant the morning's soccer games were canceled and we had plenty of time to focus on this room.


I found that piece of art between the windows at Target last week and while I wasn't sure where I wanted to put it...I knew I loved it. It was on clearance at 75% off and was only $11.99! I also knew that I needed two sets of curtains for this room. I went by Ross and TJ Maxx and couldn't find anything I liked. Plus, I would still need to spend about $40.00 for two pairs! I decided to check out my favorite thrift store yesterday and I found two matching pairs!! They were silk, and fully lined (way nicer than the ones at Ross) and were the exact color I was wanting! Also-they were $6.00 for all four! When I brought them home I realized they matched PERFECTLY will the artwork from Target. It was meant to be.


We already had the wicker furniture and the bed. The desk we found at an auction for $21.00. Since it's a guest room, I put a crate of towels on the desk. No one wants to go hunting for towels in someone else's house right?!

The comforter was our first comforter when we got married. I've hung on to it because it's a solid piece and matches with a lot of different things. It came with a pillow sham that I've never liked but always kept. Today I decided to cut it up and make it into art. These embroidery circles were at the thrift store for $1.00 and I used the fabric from the pillow sham to turn them into some over the bed wall art.


We went to a yard sale this morning and found this cross. Love it and it was $1.00!


I did replace the ceiling fan. For one thing, it was too big for the room...and it was pretty dated. I found this one at Lowes for $55.00. It was the hardest thing ever to put together. It took John and I almost two hours! But hey...it's done.

Through the entire process of us preparing to build a house we had promised our two girls a set of bunk beds. While we may have changed our plans...theirs did not...so I've been looking at the MANY styles of bunk beds lately-and there are a lot! The thing about bunk beds though...is that they really aren't all that nice looking. For the most part they are pretty clunky and dated..two things I'm trying to avoid. I came across this pin the other day and  love  the style.  I love the simple vintage feel of the metal bed and the color is great too. I also love the wallpaper (but more on that in my next post) I've searched everywhere online for this bed and it doesn't exist...at least not in this color. I did find something VERY VERY close at...drum roll..........Walmart! (and for only $165!) So at least that's a start.  (Pictured below) Who owns a bunk bed? Tell me your thoughts!

An Elegant Little Girl's Room

I have this thing where I can't post about a room until it's DONE. Unfortunately, that doesn't happen all that quickly which is why it's been a while since my last post. I'll try to work on it...but don't hold your breath. That being said, I'm soooo excited with how the girl's room turned out. Most of the rooms in the house we bought had fresh paint (and in colors I would have chosen!) but a few of the bedrooms did not. This room was one of those rooms. The walls were a yellowed, off-white and it definitely needed a fresh coat of paint. Here is a picture of the room the day we began moving stuff in. My awesome mom helped me paint the room a soft gray and the trim got a fresh coat of bright white as well. I found this dresser at the Habitat for Humanity Restore for $40! Kitchen Reveal

Our kitchen is finally done! We've been in the house just under six months and most of the renovations were done within the first three weeks. But, like almost anything in life...the last 5% of the project took the most time. In this case that was the tile back splash and painting the trim. When we moved in, all the original trim in the house had been painted white...except for in the kitchen. I'm so grateful that this was the only room with trim that needed to be painted...because it just about did me in. But...18 or so coats later (at least that's how it feels to me); it's done! We chose grey cabinets and a light granite counter top. The walls were originally sky blue, so we painted those a neutral color as well. Originally this area  was kind of set up like a desk with cabinets above. We kept the same footprint but brought the counter top up to a normal height. The glass doors on the cabinets truly complete the butler's pantry look (in my opinion). W
